I don’t work that much with flash, especially I don’t tend to show and hide objects on a website with Javascript. Today was an exception.
Apparently, when you hide an flash object with Javascript and then show it again, toggle the visibility if I may, the flash will reload every time you show it. That’s quite annoying, especially if loading the flash involves server calls and such.
It took me a while to confirm that this was actually my problem but once I knew exactly where the problem lie I already had a solution in mind.
Instead of showing/hiding the flash object I move it out of the view by setting the left margin to -10000px. Only doing this will however make sure that the flash still occupies the space it was in and I want to swap the content where the flash was for another div. By positioning all these divs absolute that problem was taken care of. Great news for my end users
I won’t post example code as all you really need to do is set position: absolute in the css and then toggle margin-left between 0 and 10000px (or any other value that you like and is enough to hide it) in your Javascript code.

I was just about to twit the following:
“I almost died on my way home! Or, I bruised two fingers against a fence as I rode into it at about 3 km/h. Still, I drew blood!”
When twitter stopped responding. “Error 503 – There is no service available to handle the request.” Very well..

It took a while and a bit of trial and error (sorry about that to all of you who subscribe to my feed) but now I think it’s finally working.
I’ve got my Twits on your right and my blog posts will pop-up and be linked in my twits.
This way you can follow my blog or my twits and don’t miss a think. Ain’t it wonderful

I’ve created a twitter account now that I have my new phone. I’ve quickly drawn the twits into the blog on the right hand side, I’ll do something about the layout when I have a few minutes to spare.
If you want to follow my twit you can do so here or at http://twitter.com/carlnordenfelt.
Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about the write up on the phone, just not done playing with it just yet

My new phone is here!
So far I haven’t had time to play around with my new HTC Hero but I’ll probably spend a couple of hours with it tonight
So far it looks good. A little slow in the interface but not so slow that I’ll start throwing it around in frustration (that’s a good thing might i add). I’ll give you a proper write up once I’ve gotten used to the thing.

Elin finally persuaded me to join her parents on their sail boat over the weekend.
We took the bought out Friday evening from Muskö and sailed out to Rånö where we stayed over night.
The next morning we cruised out on the sea for a few hours before we wrapped it up and headed back to the harbor. We decided not to stay out another night due to the weather forecast for Sunday.
It was quite nice even if I might not be as fired up about it as Elin is
If you’re interested, here’s a map showing a very rough overview of the route we took:

Elin and myself rode our bikes to Länna today, about a 20km round trip.
Once there I purchased some training gear to prepare for the autumn. Now I have proper t-shirts and pants, a wind jacket and a zip sweat that should keep me warm even during the winter

I broke the screen on my phone today rendering the entire phone completely useless and I don’t have a clue how it happened. I would have provided you with a shot of the phone but my phone’s busted so I can’t…
On top of this my old phone, which I’ve saved as back-up for situations like this has somehow successfully destroyed itself by making the battery grow to about twice the size it should be. Again, don’t have a clue how that’s happened. The third phone in the house, Elin’s old, doesn’t work well since her trip to India. It keeps asking for the pin code every other second while the phone runs in the background. Somewhat annoying to say the least. Argl!

I rode my bike to and from work today. 25km in total and it took about 1hour 20 in total (40 minutes to work and 40 minutes back home). Hard work but easier than I thought it would be. And i only ran two red lights, or one and a half actually

It’s time for yet another Bacon Explosion.
This time I’ve prepared by buying really good meat, and lots of it.
Or how does 2 kilos of thick cut bacon, 2 kilos of salsiccie, one bottle of liquid smoke (electric bbq has it’s downsides), salad, garlic bread and two kinds of barbecue sauce sound?
