I’m back from Dublin, I’ve actually been back for a couple of days.
We had a great trip to the city of Guinness.
I must confess that we didn’t do much sight seeing in the city. We mainly hung out around temple bar but we did go to the Guinness brewery which was probably the most cultural event of our trip
I can really recommend the Kinlay House Hostel if you are ever going to Dublin. It’s located just two blocks off temple bar and the room was quite nice, especially since we lived in a 20 bed dorm.
When it comes to bar I can really recommend Porter House. It’s on parliament street in temple bar.
The brew their own beer and have a great atmosphere. I loved it!

I’ve been travelling a lot the past year and I was wondering how far I’ve been flying in total so I have accumulated all the number and this is what I got:
Stockholm – New York: 6,336 x 2 = 12672
New York – San Francisco: 4,139 x 2 = 8278
Stockholm – Vienna: 1,244 x 4 = 4976
Stockholm – Dublin: 1,633 x 2 = 3266
Stockholm – London 1,436 x 4 = 5744
Stockholm – Chania: 2,736 x 2 = 5472
London – Hong Kong: 9,646 x 2 = 19292
Hong Kong – Sydney: 7,349 x 1 = 7349
Cairns – Melbourne: 2,317 x 1 = 2317
Melbourne – Hong Kong: 7,389 x 1 = 7389
Total: 76 755 km
the circumference of the earth at the equator is 40,076 km.
Conclusion: I have travelled 1.9 laps around the world in one year only counting flight distance. Cool
All numbers come from http://www.convertunits.com/distance/

This Wednesday evening I went to Debaser Slussen and saw Saybia in Concert.
I was supposed to see them last year but they canceled so I was really looking forward to this.
The first time I saw Saybia (and the only time before Wednesday) was back in 2003 I think.
They played at Hultsfred in a small arena that took only 1000 n the crowd and had a low ceiling that provided us with a great atmosphere. That is to date still one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen and I had never heard them at all before it.
So back to Wednesday.
As you understand I had some great expectations when we arrived and when I left I was indeed very happy.
I’m not really sure how I can summarize the show so I don’t think I will.
However I will mention the fact that I love their mix of old goodies with new material. I didn’t recognize all songs they played since I mainly listen to songs recorded pre 2003 so I really woke up and came to life when they played those songs. And they did play quite a few of them.
When they came back for their encore and played I Surrender I knew that this concert had made it into my top ten list of all times. It was pure magic.
The only downside was that it was almost a bit too dark so you couldn’t really see the bands faces which is something I like to do because that really gives you that feeling that the people on the stage are actually no different from you and me, they just have a skill that we don’t.

It’s that time of the year again where the problems with the communal trains in Stockholm becomes more and more frequent. This morning was hell, it took me over an hour to get to work. It ususally takes me about 20 minutes.
I’m not too bitter though. I have several alternative ways to get to work so I know I’ll always be there even though I may be a bit late. It’s not a big deal for me. What bothers me is the lack of information we are given when this happens.
This morning I came to the subway as usual. There was a train waiting on the platform with the doors closed but I could open it by pressing a button next to the door so I went in and sat down. The cart was empty and that struck me as strange but I didn’t think too much of it, I just assumed that people in general aren’t aware that you can actually open the doors.
I sat there for a couple of minutes, reading the paper when suddenly the I noticed on the digital information displays on the platform said that there was a disruption in the train service. This train wasn’t going anywhere.
When I arrived at the station the the displays were not active so there was no information about this at first. Even worse is that there was actually a guy working at the subway entrance and he charged people as usual but neglected to inform them that the trains were stopped. What’s up with that? Seriously…
Anywy, I got out of the train to catch on of the replacement buses. It took me about 3 minutes to realize that that was a bad idea so instead I took another bus to catch a commuter train instead.
So far so good, I like having these alternative routes. The bus stopped at another subway station on the way to the commuter train station. Several people went off in hopes to catch the subway from there. I guess they hadn’t noticed that this line was stopped as well. On the other hand, the trains might have started moving again, it’s hard to tell when you’re on a bus and the driver won’t give any information about the issue. I think some information would be in place on the buses when they reach subway stations in situations like these.
I opted to stay on the bus and I barely caught the next commuter train and arrived at work 40 minutes late. I don’t know if I would’ve gotten there quicker if had I got off at the second subway station or not.
What I’m trying to say is that I can live with these interruptions as long as they aren’t too frequent. I think it’s more to operating and managing hundreds of trains every day than you think and of course there’ll be a fuck up or two every now and then, that’s fine. But ffs, when shit hits the fan please, please, please inform your customers!
