Aus Counter

Look at the top of the page, notice the new count down :)

nordenfelt.2.0, alas we are getting close sire

nordenfelt.2.0 was discontinued recently. To my joy it has been brought back to life again and is a ork in progress.

I hope that the first release will be live before I go to Australia and it will contain *drumwhirl* a photo gallery! I do intend to use this gallery through out the entire aussie trip so you’d better pray I get it done ;)

When I get back I will start focusing on the blog and see what I will do with it. Wordpress does come with some nice features that I may or may not want to keep so what I end up with in the end is yet to see. What I can promise you though is that I will redeisgn the site during the first six months of 2008.

Apple is great but do they break the law?

I stumbled across something intresting just a couple of minutes ago.

I wanted to “Get album artwork” from iTunes to my music library when iTunes said that I needed an iTunes Store account. Fair enough I thought and started the registration process.

It started out just as any registration does; they wanted my name, my email and so forth. Then I came to step three (out of three so I can only assume that it was infact the last step) and this made me think.

In step three they asked me for credit card details. Since this was the last step, and since I was not asked to pay anything after i register these details I can only assume that they want it for future reference. This bothered me quite alot.

I work in a business where we handle sensitive information such as credit card details and we do all this by the book. This means that we do not keep such information in any kind of log, database or anywhere else. Yet, it seems like Apple want my information for one single purpose: to make it easier for me when I want to purchase music through the iTunes Store by simply clicking the song I want. They can’t charge me for the music without either a) have my credit card information stored somewhere or b) have me fill in my details every time I want to purchase a song.

Option b would be the correct way to do but I’m not 100% sure if option a is illeagal or not. Can someone please help me out here. I think that storing this kind of information is illegal but I really don’t want to put in the effort to find if this is true or not right now. Am I yet to receive a good response with refrences posted due tomorrow night I’ll probably look it up my self. Btw, don’t forget where you read this first….

My girlfriend

Elin, my girlfriend, just mentioned to me (she didn’t really complain but then again, I’m not sure she didn’t) that I don’t blog about her. Given this I quickly decided to dedicate a post to her :)

She is wonderful, I really love her. She is cute, beautiful and always has a lot of things on her mind (some more intresting than other but don’t tell her I said that). I enjoy living with her, these past hmm… uhm… 1½ months or something has worked out really well. In conclusion, if you see her, tell her I love her :)

Aussie is a tough place to live

Last night I realised that we are acctually going to one of Australias most visited cities druing the days between christmas and new years. About five minutes after that I learned that there are no vacancies there (at least not online). Solution: Let’s not stay there! Instead of Byron Bay we are going straight to Surfers Paradise and we are staying there for 3 days, not a bad trade if you ask me.

Lesson learned: Don’t fuck up.

Time to plan life after the Euro ‘08 Qualifiers

Sweden did what they had to do and so did Spain. We are there. Euro ‘08.

Now, thing is that the Euro Cup is always close. The one thing that makes this Euro stand out from the rest is that it is played in the counrty where my job’s head quarter is. Given the fact that we sponsor a lot of football clubs around europe and probably the Euro ‘08 as well I do see an opportunity to get my filthy hands on some free tickets. The fact that I know that I can arrange free accomodation doesn’t make things worse.

All this might seem like a great situation if you are reading this, I just can’t loose! But… there’s always a but for some reason, I can’t guarantee that I’ll get tickets. I don’t even know who to ask for them… Any way, I think I’ll spend atleast 2 weeks down south this summer just to be there and feel the magic which surrounds a large football event. If I attend a game or two for free would just add to the excitement :)

Great Party!

I must say that saturdays party was a great success. I had a lot of fun and everyone else I’ve talked to agree with me :)

My Media Center is complete

The Mac Mini arrived yesterday, finally. Everything is connected now and works like a charm. All that remains is no disconnect everything again and reconnect it but this time do it properly, ie get rid of all the loose cables laying around :)

Server upgrade

The site has been away for a day or two due to server upgrades, o acctually, I moved it to a diffrent account with my web host. End result: Better enviroment for less cost :)

I also took the opportunity to upgrade the blog and it seems to have worked. Next step is to scrap it :)

nordenfelt.2.0 discontinued

Last night I sat down intending to do some serious progress with nordenfelt.2.0. It all started out great and I was very satisfied with myself when everything started to go wrong. My mood went from top of the world to 6 feet deep within 30 minutes and after roughly two hours of cursing I finally gave up and turned the computer off.

There are multiple reasons to why it all went Pete Tong and I’ll spare you the details but in the end it turned out that web 2.0 simply isn’t advanced enough for me to realize all my ideas.

So where do I go from here? I still have a crappy, boring site with nothing but text. There is nothing on this site that makes me proud that I built it, it’s not even my back-end to begin with!

The way I see it I have two alternatives:

1: I just continue using this site as is but remodel it a bit by adding a few nice features and more functionality (not to mention securing it since it at the moment probably has a lot of security holes, damn those off-the-shelf applications).

2: I rethink my intial plan with nordenfelt.2.0 and reduce the amount of advanced features I put in to it. This might seem like a good idea but I must say that the thought of doing this hurts since the end result would only be a half baked implementation of what’s in my head. Still, it is much more appealing than #1.

As always the issue here is time. I have a little over month to finalizing everything and given that I can’t put in more than a few hours a week working on this I’m in trouble. I’m going to let my failure sink in before I make the descision so I don’t rush in to building something I won’t like in the end becuase in the end, that’s all that matters.
